Descriptions:

Today we explore the multiplicative lives of women using Alison Bancroft’s ‘Leigh Bowery Queer in fashion, queer in art’ to examine Dilara Findikoglu’s work during FW2024. We investigate how Findikoglu’s runway show works to undermine gender essentialism and helps us understand broad feminine identity, ornament and social constructs. This way we can consider how her design aesthetic is situated culturally through a feminist lens and contributes to queer and feminist fashion frameworks. Her work broadens the scope of womanhood and challenges reductive essentialist perspectives on gender. This pluralization of masculinity, femininity and all which exists in between counteracts prevailing attitudes and structural oppression around marginalized aspects of gender.
